It’s not always easy to stay motivated all the time. I know how you can fall into the same routine day after day and before you know it, You lose momentum. I’ve been there, where you just feel exhausted and not because you’re tired but because you lost your motivation to stay fit. It may be the fact that you got busy with work or the holidays came around and you feel guilty that you’re going to fall off the wagon anyway so why bother. I have made these excuses before and I’m using myself as an example.
What I want to tell you is that doing a little goes a long way, for example, if you don’t feel like working out… It’s better to get your body moving some way 10 minutes than nothing at all. Run in Place, Do Jumping Jacks or Get outside for a brisk walk and not only will you feel better but you’re getting that body moving! I’m going to give you some ideas to get you back in the groove.
Goals, goals, goals…
- Set a Goal and then break it down in detail. You want to set small goals that you can attain weekly than one big one. I’ll tell you why… When you set something up for yourself a month or six months from now you might get discouraged or even lose interest. Instead set up weekly goals to check in with yourself. You’ll be more present.
- Be Consistent, you’ve probably heard this before but consistency is key. Commit yourself to your goals because only you can achieve them.
- Understand your Why… Why are you doing this, Of course for yourself but get deeper… ex. For health, Feel better in your jeans, To get your energy back…etc. Make a list and post it somewhere visible as a reminder for those days you need it most.
- Know what your distractions are and eliminate them. We all have them, Mind over Matter…
- Give yourself a Reward once you reach a goal, it’ll make you feel good to know that achievement is possible. Treat yourself to some me-time or a Delicious Snack. You deserve it.
- Also if you’re feeling overwhelmed at any point, Take a break, it’s ok to take a step back. Inhale…Exhale and get back to it.
Stay Inspired…
- Be Successful– Create a mental picture of what you want your end goal to look like. When you visualize goals they are more achievable.
- Be Accountable– This ones not always easy. Who’s your support? Ask if you can share your goals with them. Whether it’s your best friend, sister, brother, or significant other, Check in with them weekly and let them know how you’re coming along.
- Connect with people that can relate- There are other people that might have similar goals to yours. Why not check out Facebook Groups…
- Have Realistic Expectations- It may take some time to get to where you want to be but You Will Achieve It. Just stick to it. Believe me, After I had my baby girl it took me 6 months to lose 40 lbs but I persevered and never gave up.
- Stay Away from the scale. Instead, Document your progression. A picture is worth a thousand words, Literally! Take a Starting Picture then every month after that for comparison. Also, you can use a measuring tape to log in your measurements. You can usually feel the difference with your progress faster than the scale shifting.
