How to Lose Weight After Baby

We all have that one burning question once our bundle of joy is born… When am I going to lose this darn extra baby weight. First of all, Congratulate yourselves Mommies! You did it, you have home grown your baby girl or boy and now its time to drop those lbs! I myself gained 40 pounds and I didn’t realize that it was going to be such a challenge to drop them. I worked out through majority of my pregnancy. I also breastfed my baby thinking that these extra pounds were just going to melt off. Nope!!! It took me 6 months to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight and I am here to share Tips and my Personal Advice to help you along the way.

Losing Weight After Baby

When to start working out Post-Partum depends foremost on how was your delivery? I delivered my little one vaginally and required a couple of stitches on a small tear internally. Normally doctors tell you to wait 6 weeks or until your first check-up. I waited for about 3 weeks and was ready to shed those extra pounds. I wasn’t 100% and surely felt it, so naturally, I took it one day at a time. As for C-Sections and complicated deliveries, please advise your doctor first.

Listen to your body- You know what your body can handle and what your capable of.

Choose the right exercises- Start low impact, such as walking, using the elliptical and stairs. Also, yoga is amazing as it focuses on breathing techniques. Another thing to keep in mind, is daily kegals, to restrengthen your pelvic floor.

Tracking Your Steps- Give yourself a challenge and track your steps. Aim for 2000-2500 steps every other day or every day if you’re up for it, that’s basically one mile. Then work your way up to 10,000 steps by the end of the month. You’ll feel amazing! iPhone comes with a health app that tracks steps for you.

It’s a Lifestyle not a Diet!

Eating habits play a big role in helping your body bounce back. Try focusing on plant based foods, fruits, veggies and lean meats. Try to limit processed foods and eating out. Meal Prepping is great and even if you’re pressed for time theres quick and easy entrees that are healthy and delicious.

Drink Plenty of Water! It plays a major role in keeping your skin healthy and supple. It supports digestion and also flushes out toxins.
