When you are pregnant there’s a flood of emotions that you will experience. Dealing with Anxiety During Pregnancy shouldn’t be overwhelming. Pregnancy and Childbirth are life changing events. More than 1 in 10 women will experience anxiety in their pregnancy and thats ok. Everyone worries about their Lives but pregnancy can amplify this.

Hormonal changes may affect the chemicals in your brain. Anxiety can be brought on by the anticipation of motherhood. A lot of things will change once the baby arrives, take a deep breath, you’re going to be just fine Momma. Give yourself time to adjust to Emotional and Physical Changes.

Signs of Anxiety

  • Feeling Like You’re Constantly on Edge
  • Racing Thoughts
  • Muscles Start to Tense Up
  • Heightened Irritability
  • Excessive Worrying
  • Poor Sleep or Lack of Sleep
  • Inability to Concentrate

In some people Anxiety can lead to Panic Attacks. I, myself, have dealt with panic attacks in the past and it can be scary. They aren’t dangerous but you do feel as though for a moment you lose control of your body. Most can last between 5-20 Minutes. Some of the signs include:

  • Feeling as Though You Can’t Breathe
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Feeling Like You’re Going Crazy
  • Feeling Like Something Awful is Going to Happen
  • Racing Heartbeat
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling Faint
  • Shaky Limbs

Dealing With Anxiety

When it comes to dealing with anxiety you can and will get through it by incorporating coping mechanisms:

Daily Meditation- Will promote mental health and control Anxiety

Acupuncture- Can help stimulate the part of the brain that controls emotions

Deep Breathing Exercises- 20-30 Minutes helps provide oxygen to the brain and stimulate the nervous system

Exercise– To Release Endorphins a natural de-stressor. Try Walking, Yoga or even Swimming to get your Blood Circulating

Avoid CaffeineIt can cause jitteriness which affects Anxiety

Communicate- Connect with Positive Support groups or even someone close you can trust

Massage Therapy- An amazing relaxation technique and a great way to practice Self Care

Write About It- Start a journal, Get your emotions down on paper

Stay Consistent with Sleep- Rest up, your body depends on sleep to heal and repair

Eat Well- Well balanced nutritious foods will not only make you feel good but give you energy to get through the day

Talk To Your Doctor- Sometimes you’re going to need medical advice and support- They can help guide you and only you can determine what your body needs

Be Realistic About How Much You Can Handle…

Pregnancy is an amazing time, at the same time bring on a bout of worries and concerns. Take it one day at a time. Try not to stress things you don’t have control over, and ask for help when you need it.
